HYDROPONICS

A method of growing plants using not soil, but mineral nutrient solutions. This involves setting the roots of the plants in a fibrous material which insulates the roots from hot or cool weather. Photosynthesis takes place in leaves while roots absorb nutrients under the water. Plants grow steadily according to the production schedule because perfect conditions are provided.

Almost any terrestrial plant will grow using hydroponics.

Hydroponics is being employed by companies around the world for food production for the following reasons:

1. No soil is needed

2. The water stays in the system and can be reused

3. It is possible to control the nutrition levels in their entirely

4. No nutrition pollution is released into the environment

5. Pest and diseases are easier to get rid of than in soil

6. It is easier to harvest
